Meet Marjorie W., Skin Therapist & Almost-Mechanic

Hi Marjorie!
Hello!
Why’d you get into skincare?
When I was in high school, I really wanted to be a mechanic because I love cars. But my mother said “NO,” and wouldn’t sign the papers for technical school. I decided to go to beauty school instead. Fast forward years later, I became a resident make-up artist and worked in retail cosmetics sales in some of the major New York specialty stores. I worked for MAC in its heyday, Estée Lauder, and finally Chanel.
I knew the moment I wanted to become an esthetician. I was working at Barney’s and during a staff training, Marcia Kilgore, the founder of Bliss, stopped by to launch her skincare line, Remède. I was so inspired and was so in awe of her knowledge that I had an epiphany. At that moment, I knew what I had to do with my life. After ten years and over a thousand facials later, I am more fulfilled in my career choice than ever.
What do you want every client to leave with?
I love every client leaving with confidence and also something they didn’t know about their skin. That what they came in for really met their expectations. Glowing skin, and solution to their skin concerns.
What’s one unique thing about you that we might not find out during our 50 minutes together?
One unique thing about me other than my hair is that I don’t follow the crowd when it comes to skincare. I have my own little style. And for 10 years I’ve mastered the art of what I call the "New York Facial.” My touch is thorough and rhythmic. My clients see results. No fluffy European Facials here!
What do you do to personally take care of yourself?
For self-care, I like to completely unplug and restore. No phone or emails, even if it’s just for a day. Taking care of my skin is extremely important to me. Hey, it’s the only one that I have! I love peels. To me, they’re the fountain of youth and keeps the skin clear and smooth.
If you could share one bit of advice to the world about taking care of your skin, what would it be?
No more self-surgery! If you have a blemish or need an extraction, come in let me take care of it for you.
Marjorie W. sees clients at our Tribeca location.
